upcoming release: dérive #3

dérive 003 label sticker, image side

in feb. 2012 the fine dérive label will release it’s third 12″ with three deep and lovely tracks from björnski + a different jimi, achim maerz & tilman tausendfreund.

the sax solo on “9 to 5″, the track from björnski and me, is both my first sax recording and my first saxophone-track that has been released on vinyl yet.

“Dérive co-owner Björnski opens up with his first release „9 to 5“, a collaboration with his partner-in-crime A Different Jimi. Sharing a passion for deep house and jazz music, they produced this hypnotic eight minute track built around a jazzy piano loop that melts together with the bass line, surprising the listener with Jimi’s saxophone solo.”

it’s Jazz: Jim’s edits

Jim's Edit's #1

my copy of jim's edit's #1 is number 50 of 300

hi,
i recently have been asked to write the liner notes for a housy jazz-release titled “jim’s edits #1″ from a really odd label called “it’s jazz”. so i had the opportunity to hear that two jazzy house-tracks and immediately i’d like to recommand it, because i love the tunes and i’m going to play this cool shit whenever i’ll be djing. no diggity.
pre-saling is starting inofficially tomorrow, thurday, nov-10 at smallville records, hamburg and officially on tuesday, nov-15 at your favourite vinyl store.
since the artist’s name seems to be “jim” too, i must put something straight: i am not the artist who has done these edits – it’s obviously a different jimi.

just a few release notes

libera quando is originally a picture, drawn by artist lily wittenburg [http://www.minusculenook.com]. when lily sent it to me, i soon began to play the notes on tenor sax. while interpreting the note values, i saw and heard the three basic melodies as a kind of bossa nova. so i wrote an arrangement and wrapped the melodies in a bossa-nova-hear-alike dress. it was great fun to arrange, interpret and play this fresh notes and signs. thank you, lily!
the video is based on lily’s picture and was realised by timo schirhorn [http://vimeo.com/timoschierhorn]. thank you, timo!
